Interview: How data use helps Kofa deploy swap stations

Charging infrastructure should not be deployed on assumptions, but guided by data, says Sandy Alibo, Kofa’s VP for Brand and Community. “We rely on rider movement patterns and utilisation data to decide where to place swapping stations,” she adds. Kofa operates 30 swap stations serving more than 500 riders in Ghana, mainly in Accra and Kumasi.
Ms Alibo previously led business development and partnerships at Kombini in Nigeria before becoming Kofa’s Vice President for Brand and Community.
Kofa’s biggest operational challenge is securing affordable, well-located swap sites where riders need them most. To boost uptake, Kofa is partnering with financiers to offer riders installment-based access to e-bikes, she says.
