Three Kenyan electric vehicle companies have graduated from the UK’s Green Business Building (GBB) accelerator programme. Songa Mobility, an EV company targeting sub-Saharan Africa, AceleAfrica, a battery manufacturer, and eBee, an electric bicycle company, were part of the first two cohorts that have graduated this year after being trained by McKinsey. |
Most African EV startups struggle to raise seed funding. Accelerators provide small initial investments and help startups connect with angel investors, VCs, DFIs and climate-focused funds.
At a Nairobi event this week, graduating companies said they received mentorship on navigating policies, building partnerships with governments, utilities, and financiers, and finding product–market fit.

Electric vehicle consumer prices have decreased by 0.57% in the past month as measured by the change in prices in a representative basket of products tracked by Mobility Rising. They include EV prices, consumer financing costs and fees for powering options. The prices are collected monthly by our data analysts in East, West, North and southern Africa. |
The Mobility Rising Price Index declined from 1003.41 in August to 997.67 in September, the lowest since we started tracking consumer prices in May.
The main downward driver in consumer prices was a 4.14% decrease in EV prices in Kenya. In South Africa, they went down by 0.27% during the period.
Our take: While we expect EV prices to continue to decrease, we foresee an increase in charging prices especially in Egypt… Read more (2 min)
Mobility Rising tracked 16 new job openings this week. Greenwheels Africa, an e-mobility fleet management provider, topped the chart with four postings. Other companies such as Spiro, M-Kopa, Zembo, Mogo, Kofa and ZED Motors each listed three or fewer roles. East Africa dominated with 15 jobs, while the remaining opportunities came from West Africa. |
Notably, e-mobility fleet companies are hiring for response teams. Three out of four new Greenwheels jobs are in the response team, signalling growing demand for talent to reduce service interruptions.
Beyond traditional sales, demand is also rising for field sales and after-sales roles, which account for almost a third of openings this week.
